Summit Carbon Solutions CEO confident pipeline will get completed
The CEO of Summit Carbon Solutions says the permitting process has slowed some, but he’s confident the pipeline will get completed.
Lee Blank tells Brownfield he’s seeing more buy-in across the industry.
“I think the marketplace is understanding the importance of the project now. The U.S. landowners are becoming more accustomed to the project and what it actually means,” he says.
He says after completing one of its permits in Iowa, the company continues to await hearings in North Dakota for both the pipeline and sequestration site.
As for other states, he says…
“Nebraska, we’ll be working on the permitting situation into next year and as I think about South Dakota, we have to reapply for the permit in South Dakota, which we hope to do very soon,” he says. “That process could take up to a year. Hopefully, it doesn’t, but it can’t take longer than a year.”
American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings says carbon capture is a must for the ethanol industry to be a leader in sustainable aviation fuel development.
“A lot of the ethanol companies that are part of ACE are also part of the summit pipeline, so we need and want them to succeed, but we also have ethanol company members that perhaps have the geology in certain parts of the country, including here in Nebraska, where they can sort of do that on their own,” he says.
Brownfield interviewed both Blank and Jennings at the American Coalition for Ethanol’s annual conference in Omaha, Nebraska.
